U Can Create will get your creative juices flowing, while spending quality time with your family. This hands-on program will feature a new project or activity each month and is geared for preschool aged children through adults. As always there is never any charge to attend our programs. Jessamine County Public Library JCPL Bookclub: The Underground Railroad

Join us for a group discussion of Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad. Copies of the book are available for check out at the Customer Service Desk. Refreshments will be served and registration is required. A magnificent tour de force chronicling a young slave's adventures as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. Cora is a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. Though they manage to find a station and head north, they are being hunted. Their first stop is South Carolina, in a city that initially seems like a haven. But the city's placid surface masks an insidious scheme designed for its black denizens. And even worse: Ridgeway, the relentless slave catcher, is close on their heels.

Jessamine County Public Library Intro to JCPL Creative Space

During this class, attendees will learn about JCPL's Creative Space. Policies and procedures of the space will be covered as well as a brief introduction to software used to with the 3D printers and laser cutter. At the end of class, attendees will be given the opportunity to agree to the written policy for use of the Creative Space (juveniles must have a parent or guardian attend with them and sign the agreement) and schedule a time for the second part of the Creative Space training.

Jessamine County Public Library Bring Your D&D Character to Life

Teen Program, Gaming

Have you always wanted to visualize your D&D character? Come to our drawing class and learn how to bring your character to the page. Artist, Chris Bryant will be the instructor for this class. Chris has been drawing since he was just a kid. His process involves using pencils and black inks to explore the several hues that express color where there is none. He began drawing Dragon Ball Z looking at the VCR recordings at his grandmother's house when he was younger and has continually developed his process with more and more detail and challenges since.
