Rock,Country

JP Harris and the Tough Choices dole out out pure unadulterated country music - the kind destined for dancing and heartache. They’ve resurrected the ghosts of a time when real, hardcore Honky Tonk ruled the airwaves; before the words "pop" or "new" ever met the word "country."

Front Country

Bluegrass

An acoustic band born in the land of tech innovation, Front Country was never going to be accepted as an authentic American roots band out of the gate. Cutting their teeth in progressive bluegrass jams in San Francisco’s Mission District and rehearsing in the East Bay, they learned to play roots music their own way, with the tools they had on hand. A mandolinist with a degree in composition and classical guitar. A guitarist trained in rock and world music. A bassist equally versed in jazz and bluegrass. A violinist with technique that could seamlessly hop between honky-tonk and electropop. A female lead singer with grit and soul who was also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. In a wood-paneled country dive bar in the shadow of the San Francisco skyline, Front Country forged a sound hellbent on merging the musical past with the future.

Shonen Knife

Rock,Pop,Punk

Shonen Knife, when written in Japanese, transliterates as "Shonen Naifu," literally “Boy Knife,” is an all-female Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka, Japan, in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock acts, such as the Ramones, the trio crafts stripped-down songs expressing infectious melodies and simplistic, exuberant lyrics sung both in Japanese and English. And more than three decades later, founding member and principal songwriter Naoko is still delivering; their latest album, 2014's "Overdrive," is a nod to '70s hard rock.

Kacy & Clayton

Rock,Country,Folk

This duo has the slightly psych-folk sound of Linda Perhacs, Fleet Foxes, and First Aid Kit; of rare country blues records and English folk tunes; and of 1920s disaster songs and murder ballads. Their songs often are sugar-coated pills, tales of murderous jealousy, dilapidated graveyards, and infanticide, all delivered with Kacy Anderson’s sweet, lithe voice, and Clayton Linthicum’s hypnotic fingerpicking.

Jesse Dayton

Country,Alternative,Rock

To call Austin's Jesse Dayton an "Americana" act makes him sound like a museum piece, when in reality, he's an alive, unabashed alt-punk-country twanger and basher and barely restrained rock'n'roller who has built a cult following since his first album, "Raisin' Cain," in 1995. He has recorded eight albums of his own, plus two soundtracks for Rob Zombie ("The Devil's Rejects," "Halloween 2"), and in 2016 has been selling a sampler CD at his merch table that includes such new songs as "Daddy Was a Badass" and a tune with one of the most country titles ever penned, "I'm at Home Gettin' Hammered (While She's Out Gettin' Nailed)." He's also he also played on some of the final recordings by Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Ray Price and Glen Campbell, has also performed with Willie Nelson and Johnny Bush, filled in for Billy Zoom in X, and is on the road with John Doe in 2016, both in John's band and fronting his own act. No stranger to acting, he also wrote and directed a 2013 horror movie, "Zombex," starring Malcolm McDowell, Sid Haig, John Doe and Lew Temple ("The Walking Dead").

Information:

• Tue 9/24/19 at - 7:00 PM

The Brother Brothers

Country,Folk,Americana/Roots,Bluegrass

Identical twins Adam and David Moss are a musical duo unlike most others. The Brother Brothers sound is striking and undeniably captivating. At times leaning towards the darker elements of Appalachian, klezmer, and bluegrass traditions, their songs are laden with near perfect sibling harmonies or unison singing, compelling writing, and imaginative arrangements. The acoustic duo features David on cello and guitar and Adam on the 5-string fiddle. Both with individual storied careers in the Americana music scene, the Moss brothers are now finally teaming up to bring their experiences together.

Rock,Folk,Acoustic,Indie,Pop,Americana/Roots

Smooth Hound Smith

Americana/Roots

Using primal foot percussion, complex, fuzzed-out, finger-picked guitar patterns, warbled harmonicas, tasty harmonies and a lot of tambourine, this band is able to create something rugged and visceral- a modern interpretation of early blues, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll music that harkens back to the traditions of hazy front porch folk songs as well as raucous back-alley juke joints.

Rock,Americana/Roots

North Carolina's Southern Culture on the Skids -- guitarist singer Rick Miller, bassist/singer Mary Huff and drummer Dave Hartman -- has been releasing Southern-fried, rockabilly, swamp rock and boogie-woogie since 1985. The group celebrates the beauty of Waffle House waitresses, fried chicken (they often toss pieces to their audiences), Little Debbie oatmeal pies, double-wide trailers and demolition derbies through absurdist anthems of moonshine-laced hillbillydom.
