Allah-Las is a garage and psychedelic band formed in L.A. in 2008 by three co-workers at the famous Sunset Boulevard music store Amoeba. Their early recordings were produced by the singer-songwriter Nick Waterhouse, who used vintage microphones among other techniques to get that imprecise vintage-garagey sound. The band first toured the California Coast, in 2011. The following year, they played the East Coast and in London. They released their third album, "Calico Review," in September 2016.

BoomBox evolved through the common visualization of a pair of forward thinking artists from diverse musical backgrounds: Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux. Together they develop an electronic blend of vintage rock and blues that is made to move dance floors. They do this while incorporating their signature backbeat, psychedelia and funky house sounds. BoomBox's first release, "Visions of Backbeat," contained the breakout song 'Stereo' that launched their rapidly growing fan base. They delivered their fourth release, the digital download "Bits & Pieces," in early 2016.

The Toronto punk band drew notice in the Lower 48 almost from its beginning. Jon Caramanica of The New York Times wrote that their 2013 debut album made Pup "one of the most exciting punk bands of recent years." In 2016 Caramanica praised their second release, "The Dream is Over," just as highly, reporting that it maintained the quintessential "raucous energy" of punk "while cutting it through with vivid storytelling and palpable feeling." He singled out lead singer Stefan Babcock's lyrics, which are wry and self-deprecating even self-defeating. The band's musicianship in live performance is notably sloppy, which contributes to the explosiveness of their sound. Babcock howls so much and so loudly that he early on already developed a cyst on his vocal chords, damage that may put an early end to his singing career.
