The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

Considered by many to be the funniest play in the English language, this "Wilde" experience follows Algernon and Jack - two proper, British bachelors, each using a secret identity to escape their humdrum city lives in order to move more freely in social circles. When each falls in love with a woman who believes them to go by the name Earnest (and are, indeed, as in love with the name of "Earnest" as with the men themselves), they must be christened at once! But they can't BOTH be Earnest, can they? Performances take place Thursday through Sunday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center, 141 East Main Street, next to Alfalfa and across from the Downtown Public Library. Appropriate for ages middle school and up.

The Importance of Being Earnest By Oscar Wilde October 5-21, 2018; 8 PM Thursday-Saturday, 2 PM Sunday Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center In this “Trivial Comedy for Serious People,” the charming Algernon and Jack both use the alias of “Ernest” to hobnob outside their stuffy social circles. But their harmless deceptions come to a halt when they fall in love with women more taken with their assumed names than with the men themselves – and the imperious Lady Bracknell doesn’t approve of either union. They can’t both be Ernest – or can they? This classic comedy-of-manners has been thumbing its nose at “proper society” for over 100 years! This production is sponsored by Debra Hensley - State Farm.
