Funk Fridays

Funk, R&B/Soul

Together Lexington and The Lyric Theatre are pleased to announce Funk Fridays to all Lexingtonians, Central Kentuckians and any traveling music and food lover. Funk Fridays hits Lexington this summer starting in May and finishing off in October at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. Every third Friday of the month, enjoy a fun music atmosphere for all ages. Funk Fridays will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Fun 4 Everyone. Families can come early to enjoy time with their children diving into the arts with On The Move Art Studio and Sisohpromatem. Funk Fridays officially begins at 8:00 p.m. where local Lexington funk, R&B, and soul artists will perform until 10:00 p.m. During Funk Fridays, families can enjoy food truck delicacies from MiMi’s Southern Style Cooking; Fida’s Carribean Café; and Savs Chill. West Sixth Brewing will also be making an appearance serving their specialty craft beers. The creation of Funk Fridays first started with Together Lexington‘s Courageous Conversations, a series of community conversations to encourage courageous, meaningful discussion and awareness among all members of the Lexington community. Throughout these discussions, Together Lexington heard from the public a need for events that create opportunities for diverse segments of the community to interact, and a person of color did not have a lot of entertainment opportunities in the downtown area. Upon hearing this, Together Lexington met with the Executive Director of the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, Donald Mason. "This event has been in the making for some time and thanks to Together Lexington, it is coming to life. The goal is to bring top local live music talent and pair that with some of the best food vendors in town,” said Donald Mason. " We're gonna have a funky good time!" Funk Fridays tickets are $5.00 and children 12 and under will be free. To purchase your tickets for Funk Fridays, please go to or call the Box Office at 859-280-2218.

1001 Nights: Our Tribal Roots – Rakadu 20th Anniversary

World Dance

Rakadu Dance Theatre celebrates its 20th year in the Lexington dance community alongside guest artists Amel Tafsout and Dalia Carella! AMEL TAFSOUT- (means ‘Hope of Spring’) is a charismatic international first source master dance artist of North African Maghreb dance and has mesmerized audiences in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as Europe, New Zealand, U.S.A. and Latin America. Tafsout is an acclaimed choreographer, instructor and performer of North African Maghreb Dance as well as a poet, a storyteller, a singer, a socio-linguist and a dance anthropologist. DALIA CARELLA- is a renowned world fusion artist, choreographer, master teacher, and the Founder/ Artistic Director of the Dalia Carella Dance Collective. Her rich background has lead her to make works utilizing both ethnic and contemporary movement, that are ingrained with a deep spiritual and mystical essence. She is known for her explorations into cultural dance forms, her precise and seamless blending of traditional and modern dance in the theatrical context, and for her dark and sultry cabaret stylings, evocative of the European underground, circa the 1920s and 30s. RAKADU is a collaborative effort of many souls; each an empty vessel receiving generosity and pouring into the next. Flooded with abundance and spilling into the streets, this river carries the genuine sip to slake the thirsty mind. Rakadu seeks to master the art of conversational movement, to find the dwelling of the selfless heart, to reflect the evolution of culture and its peoples, to explore the realm of living awareness, and to open the skies to shine on both the watching eyes and the story fabric unfurling before them. Please celebrate with us as we present pieces new and classic from the Rakadu repertoire. For tickets:
